Between questions, curvaceous Elsie opined, ‘I’ve lain with my legs up, taken hormones, and screwed in line with my temperature.’

She shovelled peanuts, swigged her pint. ‘We can’t afford IVF.’

A bad friend, I kept quiet about the commonest causes of infertility.

  1. This is full of images! I love the phrase – “screwed in line with my temperature.”

    • I hadn’t seen any images, but now I have one of a temperature chart in my head and that line takes on a whole new meaning.

  2. Bad friend. Naughty friend. hehe The longer they are left not perpetuating the species, the better!

    • Given that the most common causes of couple infertility are low sperm count and ovarian cysts, it seems a little unfair to judge a person based on that, but I definitely agree that the narrator is a terrible friend. Probably Elsie should find a less prejudiced person to hang out with.

      • Thank you for your comment. I was scuppered by time and word count this week – used commonest when really the non-friend meant things Elsie and her partner had some control over – obesity and alcohol both affecting male hormones and contributing to low sperm count. But then some people are lazy (the narrator) and tend to believe what they want to no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary.

    • And I thought my narrator was harsh 🙂

  3. Being a good friend can be hard because sometimes the friends don’t like honesty. At least she didn’t order her some nachos and a chocolate cake 🙂

    • Some people don’t like the truth and others have to weigh being a bad friend or maybe soon not being a friend at all. Now who on earth eats nachos and chocolate cake, or didn’t you mean at the same time? 🙂
