#Trifecta: Week 94 – Mask – Betrayal

with 14 comments

This week’s Trifecta Writing Challenge asked for 33-333 words on ‘mask’. I wasn’t getting anywhere fast until I found the work of Farzana Hossen published in The Sunday Times Magazine (8th September).

The prompt:

3a : a protective covering for the face

: gas mask

: a device covering the mouth and nose to facilitate inhalation

: a comparable device to prevent exhalation of infective material

: a cosmetic preparation for the skin of the face that produces a tightening effect as it dries

The rules:

  • Your response must be between 33 and 333 words.
  • You must use the 3rd definition of the given word in your post.
  • The word itself needs to be included in your response.
  • You may not use a variation of the word; it needs to be exactly as stated above.
  • Only one entry per writer.

Betrayal (33-words)

Mona’s sultry eyes determined she would make a desirable wife, until she spurned her cousin’s advances. A mask now covers her acid-etched face, but nothing can disguise the white stick she follows.

  13. Whoa. What you said in just 33 words was impressive. What you showed me in the links was agony, but sometimes you have to disturb people to wake them up to what’s happening in the world. The pictures of the acid attacks were hard to take. I hadn’t heard of this. Now, I know.

This was one of the best of the Trifecta’s I read today.
