#Trifecta: Week 92 – turkey – A Long Dry Night

with 14 comments

I’m not sporty. I know nothing about bowling. Is that a disadvantage to this week’s Trifecta Writing Challenge? Probably.

The prompt:

1: a large North American gallinaceous bird (Meleagris gallopavo) that is domesticated in most parts of the world
2: failure, flop; especially : a theatrical production that has failed
3: three successive strikes in bowling
4: a stupid, foolish, or inept person

The rules:

  • Your response must be between 33 and 333 words.
  • You must use the 3rd definition of the given word in your post.
  • The word itself needs to be included in your response.
  • You may not use a variation of the word; it needs to be exactly as stated above.
  • Only one entry per writer.
  • Trifecta is open to everyone. Please join us.

A Long Dry Night (33 words)

‘How long are Jim and Bob going to play?’

‘You shouldn’t complain. You were the one who said, the first one to score a turkey buys the drinks.’

‘Was I? Dammit, I’m thirsty.’

  1. *hahaha* Sounds like it might be a long wait. 🙂 Oh, and *never* make bets involving drinks when what you really want is a drink. *grin*

    • No, no bets where drinks are concerned. It’s going to result in disappointment, or embarrassment.

  2. He said it so long ago he doesn’t remember. That’s funny. Sounds like he might want to buy the first round. It might be easier for someone to throw the turkey. After they’re loosened up a bit. 🙂 Cute story in so few words. Well done.

    • I think someone needs to buy a drink, before they die of old age. 🙂 There might be some pride-swallowing soon.

    Terrific little story.

  5. Short and sweet. I love it. I don’t think your lack of bowling experience hindered you a bit. Thanks for linking up.

    • Thank you. I don’t think the one making the drink decisions had much idea about bowling either.

  6. I say make up a new house rule that says when the spectators get thirsty all bets can be forgotten!

  7. Well if bowling a turkey made me responsible for buying drinks, I think I’d aim for the gutter! (Or call a tie and both buy drinks :))

    • You’ve left me wondering whether Jim and Bob are lousy players or canny ones!
