Supermarket Sweep (150 words)

Phil looked at the assembled throng and folded his arms in satisfaction. This was going to work: he had the perfect team. Ted had swapped shifts so could disable the alarm system if there were any problems. April had installed the extra batteries in the refrigerated unit in case of any delivery delays. Steve was in control of logistics and all the customers were waiting.

Tonight was the night. Once the store closed, they would clear the warehouse. It was only what the board deserved. The union had abandoned its demands for pay rises, members had agreed to work extra hours; still the management had made its cuts. Tonight they would pay.

Steve pushed himself up. He waved as he left the staffroom, and returned to his place on the tills.

‘He okay?’ Ted asked.

‘Day dreaming again, I expect,’ April shrugged, ‘that’s what he usually does on his breaks.’

  1. I can not express, how much I love the ending to this piece.

    • Thanks for that. I wasn’t sure of the ending (I often worry about my endings) so knowing it works is reassuring.

  2. Love how you used the photo in a symbolic manner, rather than literal. Well crafted piece!!

    • Thanks Angela. I was foxed by the photo so focused on the word prompt this week.
